The Southern District Health Board (SDHB) has a staff of approximately 4,500 and are responsible for publicly funded health and hospital services in the Southland and Otago regions. The role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will work closely with the clinical executive leadership team (Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing & Midwifery Officer and Chief Allied Health, Scientific & Technical Officer) and the Clinical Council. This new role has been created to develop strategy and to drive and embed quality improvement and innovation in clinical governance practices throughout the organisation. Leading a team of 36 FTE’s via 8 direct reports, this significant role has a large portfolio including the leadership of Health Pathways, Patient Affairs and Enquiries, Privacy, HDC, Coroner and ACC investigations, Compliance and Risk programmes and Quality Improvement facilitators. This role will work closely with the Clinical Council and also with the Community Health Council to ensure work programmes achieve the goal of clinical excellence and that future patient pathways are effective.


Candidates of interest will have relevant executive level experience in the health sector along with proven patient focused clinical quality improvement experience. You will be a builder of systems, have a strong process improvement focus and demonstrated success in embedding these into operational practice across an organisation.  You will be an accomplished relationship builder with demonstrated influencing skills and a track record of successfully leading teams, facilitating change and leading multiple projects.
