The Southern District Health Board (SDHB) has a staff of approximately 4,500 and are responsible for publicly funded health and hospital services in the Southland and Otago regions. Located in Dunedin and reporting to the Executive Director Specialist Services, the General Manager is responsible for providing strategic, operational and technical support across an extremely diverse portfolio, with overall responsibility for 350 FTE’s including Emergency Care & Specialist Medicine Services, Southern Blood & Cancer Services, and Women’s & Children’s Health. Critical to this role will be strong operational leadership in promoting patient centred care within the allocated resources of time, people and funding.  Successful collaboration with clinical leaders ensuring positive clinician-management partnerships are developed throughout the DHB, will also be key to success.

Candidates of interest will have extensive experience leading large operational roles in the health sector, with proven ability to think strategically and analyse complex issues whilst managing functional responsibilities on a day to day basis. Demonstrated experience implementing contemporary models of care in partnership with clinical leaders, along with a track record in building constructive and effective relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally is essential. You will also have proven success improving the patient journey, fostering an environment where the patient is put first and enhancing the health continuum across community and hospital services.
