Otago Fish and Game Council is seeking a new Chief Executive based in Dunedin. The Council is a public entity operating under the Conservation Act and is responsible for the management of sports fish and game bird resources within the Otago region. As fish and game resources are largely wild and self-sustaining, there is a management emphasis on protection of freshwater habitats – rivers, lakes and wetlands - through planning processes.
Reporting to a Council elected by fish and game licence holders, the Chief Executive will be responsible for the development of strategic and operational plans, budgeting and reporting, employment of staff and legal compliance.
The role has a strong operational focus which involves building and maintaining external relationships, licence holder communication, and public advocacy. Well-developed written and oral communication skills are essential.
Effective leadership and development of staff (8) and volunteer rangers is an important element of the position.
Candidates should have a tertiary qualification in science, planning or management and/or relevant work experience.
