- Small city benefits, big city ambition
- Reporting to the Chief Executive
- Lead the delivery of all HR functions within the council.
Palmerston North is a vibrant, progressive and ambitious city. The city is experiencing growth in all sectors and competes with other regional centres amidst technological and demographic change for capital, talent and visitors.
In this context Palmerston North City Council (PNCC) provides services to 90,000 residents, employing 600 staff across a broad range of functions. PNCC is leading a bold new vision for Palmerston North: small city benefits, big city ambition that will help the metro achieve its potential, capitalise on its strengths, and thrive in the future. To support its transformation, PNCC is currently seeking expressions of interest for the appointment of a Chief People Officer (CPO).
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the CPO will support the organisational transformation and enable a sector-leading employee experience. The person we are looking for has demonstrated expertise in delivering successful change in complex organisations, through the lens of comprehensive, best practice People services.
With a team of 21 direct and indirect reports, the CPO will also provide oversight, support and development to the People and Performance Unit, be well-versed in all areas of HR operations, which will include PNCC’s newly formed Transformation team.
A background in local government is preferred but not essential. However, an ability to work and partner effectively with a broad range of internal stakeholders is critical to success in this role. A commitment to positive change, partnership, inclusion and delivery will also be important.
