  • Flexible NZ location (Christchurch Preferred)
  • Drive the Next Stages of Growth and Development
  • Commercial Leadership, Technology/Data Focus, Innovation and Opportunity

Incorporated in 2010, SmartCo is a joint venture company providing high quality smart meter services to the energy sector. Currently serving more than 250,000 urban and rural consumers across NZ, SmartCo is owned by several electricity lines companies including Alpine Energy, Counties Power, Electricity Invercargill, Network Tasman, On Metering, The Power Company and WEL Networks. With a number of energy retailers already secured as customers, SmartCo continues to attract additional retailers whilst it completes the final stages of its meter deployment and looks to embark on the next phase in its evolution – pursuing the wider provision and utilisation of beneficial strategic data, analytics and tools.

Reporting to an Independent Chair, the CEO will bring a strategic and operational focus to shaping and securing future growth and development opportunities for the business. With a creative and innovative approach, the role will work closely with new and existing customers within the energy sector (and potentially beyond), providing them with superior information and data and enabling them to enhance the management of their businesses and networks. Excited by the opportunity to respond to a rapidly developing sector, driven by disruptive technology and changing consumer behaviour, the CEO will also display strong operational and project management skills, in order to ensure exceptional service to all its stakeholders and customers.

The successful candidate will possess a proven track record in a leadership role, ideally gained within the energy/electricity, telco or technology sector. Prior experience of having successfully led the growth of a “start-up” stage organisation would also be beneficial. Applicants must be commercially astute, future-focused and customer-centric in approach and also possess exceptional project, contract and relationship management skills. The ability to work with multiple stakeholders, and successfully develop a business within a complex and changing environment is essential for your success.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead the future growth and direction of an innovative and progressive organisation within a continually evolving sector.
