Satisfying career development is offered by this senior engineering opportunity in the Whanganui District. Whanganui District Council has commissioned a new and leading-edge wastewater plant for the City in 2018 to end direct discharge to sea. This role is the opportunity to manage a team of 11 staff who are passionate about the new plant, best-practice asset management of all above-ground and underground assets in the District, and in a Council which still retains its professional services and asset management in-house.
The role is a key leadership position in the Infrastructure Group and offers the professional opportunity to manage the infrastructure directly rather than through contractors. This is an increasingly unique opportunity within local government to directly plan, procure and execute works, and grow a high performing team. The scope of work includes design, procurement, project management, trade waste, planning, customer management and risk management.
Whanganui City has been growing in population and businesses in recent years with the buzz of new families and represents an incredible lifestyle location - close to New Zealand’s best outdoor experiences in bush, cycle trails, river and skiing. The City is known for being welcoming, strong in schools and has the range of arts and culture one would expect of a modern New Zealand city.
The role will suit a civil engineer with highly developed skills in people leadership and teamwork, technical engineering proficiency, appreciation for environmental sustainability, asset management planning and delivery, professional standards, the ability to deliver projects and work programmes to time and budget, and with a strong passion for business improvement and innovation.
