Presbyterian Support Upper South Island (PSUSI) is a non-profit social services organisation serving the West Coast, Mid-Canterbury, Christchurch, North Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson for over 100 years, with the vision for a just, compassionate and inclusive society in Te Waipounamu.  Motivated by its Christian heritage and in partnership with others, PSUSI works to support children, young people, families, whānau and older people to be safe, strong and connected.  PSUSI’s ways of working to achieve its mission are Compassionate/Arohatanga, Respectful/Whakamana, Inspirational/Whakaohooho,  Sustainable/Toitū, Purposeful/Hoaketanga, Cohesive/Kotahitanga and Connected/Tauhere.

This vacancy arises following the planned retirement of the long serving and respected Chief Executive.

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive will build on the legacy of strategic, financial and operational success supported by dedicated employees and volunteers.  Beyond the leadership, people management and growth focus required, the Chief Executive will ensure maintenance and development of strong relationships with stakeholders and funding providers, whilst continuing to build a relevant and sustainable organisation.  Key objectives are to enhance relations, implement the new strategic plan, play an advocacy role whilst continuing to look for opportunities to build new partnerships and service lines.

Candidates will possess a proven track record of success working at a senior leadership level in a complex multi-site organisation, ideally within the health/community/social service/not-for- profit sectors.  A strong financial background, business development experience, the ability to seek out new opportunities and a focus on service excellence and achieving results are essential. Excellent leadership and relationship management skills are required to build strong sector networks through interaction with government, the public sector, funding agencies, Iwi, NGOs and communities. 

A rare combination of vision, skills, experience and the ability to embody the PSUSI’s values are prerequisites to effectively lead this unique organisation.
