The Catholic Diocese of Christchurch embraces the majority of Canterbury and Westland, as well as the Chatham Islands. Established in 1887, the Diocese is currently led by Bishop Paul Martin. The Diocese is a diverse place, with a wide variety of ministries.

The Management Accountant is a key member of the Finance and Support Services team, with the vision of ‘One team, in accord, working together to support the Church, the Bishop, the Priests and the pastoral mission of the Diocese’.

Reporting to the Manager Finance & Support Services, this role will provide management accounting support to the Manager Finance & Support Services and the Diocese, working proactively to provide management and other budget holders with financial and non-financial information and support, in a timely, relevant and accurate manner. The role will also support the Manager Finance & Support Services to ensure the integrity of business systems, processes and controls throughout the organisation. This 12-month fixed term contract (part-time) is to provide parental leave cover.

The Catholic Diocese of Christchurch are looking for a person with:

  • A tertiary qualification and ideally CA qualified, with at least two years’ management accounting experience.

  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills, with an attention to detail and a focus on achieving results.  

  • Sound strategic thinking.

  • The ability to work with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Advanced analytical and Excel skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • The ability to work well in a team environment and be equally comfortable working autonomously is also critical to success.  

Successful candidates will also possess a respect for the tradition, values, and an understanding of and empathy with the Catholic faith. Experience with Xero is an advantage.

This role is for 20 hours per week with flexibility around the structure of those hours and represents a great flexible working opportunity for an experienced and self-motivated Management Accountant.
