Manager, Legal and Commercial

Reference Number: 7689aa

Location: Tauranga

  • Senior Commercial Leadership Role – Legal, Risk and Procurement

Tauranga is on a journey to become a talented and innovative city full of opportunity, a city with heart and soul; and a city of great spaces, places and environments. Its long-term plan will guide the Council to achieve this vision, and its people will be the driving force to make it happen. If you want a role that is both fast-paced and rewarding, where work-life balance is not just something in the job ad, then read on!

In this key role you will lead a team of Corporate Solicitors & Risk and Procurement Specialists to provide outcome-focused commercial advice to Commissioners, the Executive Team and the broader organisation.

A key focus will be the development, management and delivery of an effective and sustainable organisational risk framework; and the management of a robust audit programme, legal services framework and associated policies. You may represent Tauranga City Council at formal and informal mediations and negotiations.

This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your outstanding leadership capability to this high performing, collaborative and supportive team. You will be someone who thrives on the opportunity to lead and influence in a diverse setting, building relationships and working with key stakeholders across the organisation on a broad range of matters.

To thrive in this role, you will have/be:

  • Strong leadership skills at senior management level
  • Demonstrated success in a position with similar or equivalent responsibilities
  • Strong experience supporting decision making and governance through designing, forming and implementing appropriate frameworks and processes
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse and complex range of stakeholder groups
  • Commercially astute
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field.

While an understanding of the local government, legal and political framework is relevant, strong consideration will be given to commercial leaders with private sector backgrounds and experience in managing complex stakeholder relationships.

If you are passionate about leading a high performing team and looking for a career where you can make a real difference, then we would love to hear from you.
