- Invercargill Based
- Executive Leadership Role
- Build the Culture and Make Your Mark
With total income in excess of $83m per annum and employing over 415 full time employees, Invercargill City Council is a key player in advancing the growth and prosperity of the Southland Region. Council’s vision is to create an exciting, innovative, safe, caring and friendly city offering lifestyles based on a healthy environment and a diverse, growing economy. To achieve this, Council is working closely with a wide range of agencies and key stakeholders on a range of economic and community development initiatives. The city is in a strong financial position and committed to a number of key initiatives including the CBD re-development, key community and infrastructure investments over the coming years and a continual focus on customer service and ongoing process efficiencies.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and leading approximately 50 staff, this opportunity arises with the planned retirement of a long-serving Director. The Group Manager Environmental & Planning Services will lead the environmental services team and the newly combined planning and building services teams, developing capability, encouraging collaboration and promoting the culture, values and behaviours. As a member of the executive leadership team, you will contribute towards the executive direction and strategic leadership of this Council, working to enhance the city and preserve its character, while embracing innovation and change.
Candidates of interest will be proven leaders operating at senior level, have a relevant tertiary qualification and come from a local government background with demonstrated experience leading regulatory functions. Whilst a sound working knowledge of environmental, planning and building legislation is essential, we seek candidates who are up for a challenge and can point to a successful track record of inspiring staff, leading change, building culture and developing capability.
Invercargill’s reputation for being family-friendly is well deserved, with affordable housing, great schools and amazing facilities, and with direct flights to Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington the rest of the world is also within easy reach. With Central Otago, Fiordland and the Catlins on our doorstep, we are uniquely situated to enable easy exploration of the region's world famous ski fields, lakes and wineries. All good reasons why working for ICC is a great career and lifestyle choice.
