The Southland District Council (SDC) is a territorial authority responsible for the largest land area of 30,401 km², in arguably the most unique and beautiful part of the country, including Milford Sound, Fiordland National Park, Te Anau and Stewart Island. SDC is renowned for sector leadership at both political and management level, with a particular focus on preparing and planning for the significant environmental issues that may impact the region in the future.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and leading approximately 30 staff, the Group Manager Environmental Services will lead the environmental services teams with an emphasis on building collaboration and developing capability. A strong focus is the leadership of environmental policy and land use planning, along with automation of regulatory processes and the implementation of new systems. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be expected to contribute towards the executive direction and strategic leadership of this Council.
Candidates of interest will have relevant local government experience leading regulatory functions, a good understanding of regulatory legislation and be proven leaders operating at senior level. We seek an environmental champion with significant experience leading the development of policy for environmental issues and the practical application of this for the region.
