Auckland Bowls is committed to delivering a sport that is enjoyable, entertaining and accessible to the people of Auckland and visitors to the area. Representing the 42 incorporated society clubs throughout Auckland, the organisation seeks to attract more people playing bowls more often by leading and developing the growth of the sport. Presently they seek to appoint a new General Manager who will report to the Board and will have responsibility for overseeing a team which will include the Events Manager, Club Support Manager, Marketing Executive and part-time contractors who support club development.
Key accountabilities in the role will include management and development of the organisation, through the application of stand-out leadership, business management and networking skills. Auckland Bowls is currently facing the challenges of the contemporary sports and recreation environment and it requires a proactive General Manager who can effectively lead the organisation into an exciting new era. Working closely with the Board appointed sub-committees, the General Manager will also manage the interface with funders, external commercial bodies, Auckland Council, the news media and other major sports bodies in the Auckland region.
Key challenges facing Auckland Bowls also include the development of new revenue streams, managing the return on deployed assets, progressing the development of clubs and the expansion of the sport into new membership areas. To meet the requirements of this key appointment, we seek applications from candidates with proven experience at general management level, sound financial skills, together with the essential marketing oriented approach to drive membership growth and change. Although not essential, a background in sports administration may be advantageous.
