Nova Trust is a charitable community trust, established by Deed in 1981, for the benefit of those affected by alcohol, drugs and other life challenges with a focus on making their lives better. Nova Trust is also a registered charity, whose Trustees oversee the direction and management of the charity. The Nova Trust Board has recently completed a Board review process and is committed to continuing this review and development to ensure ongoing fit for purpose. As a result, the Board aims to appoint 2 new Trustees to complement and augment the existing team and work strategically and collaboratively with the Board and Chief Executive to achieve Nova Trust’s vision.
Uniquely situated in a 29-hectare country environment, in Templeton on the outskirts of Christchurch, the Trust offers supported accommodation in its 67-bed lodge. Nova employs approx. 40 skilled and compassionate people with many of them working closely with service users, their whanau, families and communities to change lives. Nova offers hope, help and the opportunity to change for those affected by alcohol, drugs and other life challenges through the provision of treatment, rehabilitation, recovery support and skills development.
To achieve this, the Trust currently manages three distinct services:-
- Nova Recovery (Treatment & Recovery)
A recovery-oriented service and programme providing treatment, rehabilitation and supported accommodation for those affected by addiction.
- Nova STAR (Supported Treatment and Recovery)
Nova’s Supported Treatment Centre provides services as an ‘Approved Provider’, as part of the Substance Addiction (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 2017. The service is part of wider models of care operating nationally, offering a residential placement following a medical detoxification and stabilisation of health.
- Nova Fresh (Food and Farming - Social Enterprise)
Our well-established Social Enterprise is a thriving horticulture and farming business (tunnel houses, propagating house and a market garden, along with sheep and cattle), which provides Nova service-users the opportunity of developing employment and life skills as part of their programme. The service has been part of Nova since its inception, with recent restructure providing an opportunity for further development, diversification and expansion going forward.
We seek interest in these rewarding positions from individuals who possess a well-developed level of business/commercial acumen along with previous knowledge and experience of working at a governance level. A specialist background / skillset in either finance/accounting, human resources or legal would also be highly beneficial.
Most importantly, applicants will display a passion for improving lives and an empathy for the services that Nova provides.
Board meetings are held monthly at Nova’s Templeton premises with meetings usually lasting 2 hours. There are 11 meetings per year.
