New Chief Scientific Advisor for Antarctica NZ

Sheffield is thrilled to have partnered again with Antarctica NZ in the recent appointment of their Chief Scientific Advisor and are proud to congratulate Jordy Hendrikx as the successful candidate, after undertaking an extensive global search process.

Jordy is a leading Cryosphere/Snow Scientist and has led Antarctic research for the last 20 years. He comes to Antarctica NZ from Montana State University as an Associate Professor and Director of the Snow and Avalanche Laboratory.

Jordy has served at Montana State University as Department Head for Earth Scientists and the Director of Liberal Studies. His PhD is focussed on snow and avalanche researchand he has undertaken significant research in this area from Antarctica to the Arctic, including the effects of climate change.

The Chief Scientific Advisor is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and accountable for the strategic leadership of New Zealand’s Antarctic research, also acting as a co-ordination point for Antarctic Science generally.

A New Zealander keen to return home after many years overseas, we wish Jordy all the very best as he commences his new role with Antarctica NZ.
