The Background

In 2013 there was a merger between Farmlands (based in the North Island) and CRT (South Island based), both of which were co-operatives. This merger involved disestablishing both senior management teams and running a selection process to create a fresh new Farmlands management team. The job involved working with the CEO to explore the new organisational structure that needed to support the value proposition of the firm and how it would engage with its customers.

What Did We Do to Help

Sheffield was involved right from the start to help navigate the whole change management process. With an understanding of the vision and the new values of the company, Sheffield assessed the internal candidates against a set of criteria, and went to went to market for several new positions. A big challenge was to assist the CEO map where the accountabilities lay to keep the merger on track. Great care was taken to ensure it was not disruptive to staff or the business. Sheffield also helped clarify the new challenges ahead ensuring a seamless transition for the new executive team.

What Happened as a Result

The end result was a happy CEO and a delighted board. Since the placement Sheffield has appointed at least 30 managers into the company. Sheffield continues to work with Farmlands on a range of OD initiatives including a new competency framework to better define and reinforce the culture at all levels within the organisation.
