The Background

With the recent independent review of workplace culture completed and a 5-year business ‘turn around’ plan in place, Lyttelton Port is firmly committed to a future with people at its core and began the process of creating a new Culture and Transformation team.

To be led by a Head of Culture & Transformation, and assisted by two Business Partners, the team will sit at the heart of the organisation’s focus on Whanaungatanga. With a high degree of visibility across all operational areas, they are jointly responsible for leading the delivery of LPC-wide initiatives aimed at the continued change and transformation of the culture.

Lyttelton Port Company (LPC) is the largest Port in the South Island and is the international gateway for goods coming in and out of the region, facilitating the movement of $5.6 billion of exports and $4.8 billion of imports last financial year.

With a focus firmly on the future, these are exciting times for LPC as they navigate a significant transformation and evolution of the organisation, with a refreshed strategy focused on culture, innovation, optimisation, and business growth.

What We Did to Help

Partnering alongside Kirstie Gardener, LPC’s General Manager - People & Safety, Louise Green, Senior Consultant at Sheffield, set about gaining a deep and thorough understanding of the organisation, their future direction and needs, as well as the “fit”, skills, competencies and experience that would be needed to create a successful new transformation team.

Louise recommended some digital advertising for the roles, alongside a very targeted Search approach, where our dedicated in-house specialist Research Consultants identify and approach potential candidates who closely fit the brief.

The Outcome

Sheffield has real strength in the culture transformation and development area, which is why we decided to partner with them on the appointment of these newly established positions.

The initial briefing was extremely thorough and really set the scene for what proved to be a very smooth process. The candidate briefing document was also excellent and very comprehensive.

Sheffield provided a superb service – the whole process was flawless – it was easy, on time and excellently executed.” Kirstie Gardener, General Manager - People and Safety, Lyttelton Port Company.

With an excellent response to both advertising and the targeted Search process, we are proud to announce the following three new appointments to the Culture and Transformation team, and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate:

Rachel Wells – Head of Culture & Transformation

Rebecca Baigent – Business Partner – Culture & Transformation

Beccy Warwick - Business Partner – Culture & Transformation

We would also like to thank Lyttelton Port Company for selecting Sheffield as their trusted partners in forming such a critical team as they embark on the transformation journey.
