Areas of focus:

  • Growing opportunities to encourage the economic development of the region;
  • Team consolidation and leadership, along with a strong focus on building capability and succession;
  • Developing regional partnerships with neighbouring councils and other key stakeholders, including the Crown and Ngati Waewae.
  • Key projects including a new library, 3 waters, increased community focus, and development of the port;
  • Opportunity to bring a fresh set of eyes.

About the Person:

This is a highly attractive opportunity for an existing CE or a high-potential executive ready for the challenge of Chief Executive leadership.  Candidates of interest will point to a strong track record of successful leadership, will be community focussed and will likely come from local government.

The successful candidate will see the bigger picture, be confident and resilient, have an energetic and enabling approach, and will understand and embrace the challenges ratepayers face. You will:

  • Uphold the values of servant leadership, acting with honesty, integrity and trust, demonstrating Grey District Council Values;
  • Have demonstrated strategic, commercial and financial acumen, along with a delivery focus;
  • Be highly personable with strong communication and relationship management skills, a collaborative style, with high levels of emotional intelligence;
  • Have a track record of developing partnerships and opportunities to encourage the economic development of the region;
  • Have a good cultural awareness, continuing the positive relationship with local Iwi.

This role requires a person who can demonstrate a commitment to the District, becoming part of the community, and acting in the best interests of the Council, with the well-being and engagement of the communities at the heart of any decisions.

 

About the Organisation:

The Grey District Council is the territorial authority for the northern West Coast.  Council’s goal is to promote the well-being of its local communities.  It has a wide range of responsibilities under the Local Government Act.

The area of the Grey District is 3,513 square kilometres. Stretching from the south banks of the Punakaiki River in the north, SE to Mt Anderson, N to The Pinacle SE to Craigeburn in a SE direction to Mt Barron, SW to Jacksons and following the Taramakau River to the Tasman Sea.

Council’s mission is to serve the residents of the Grey district, conscious of their needs, by providing facilities and services and creating an appropriate environment for progress and development; while preserving the distinctive natural environment, as well as the cultural and historical environments.

The Council consists of 9 elected members, the Mayor and 8 Councillors and an Iwi Representative from Te Runanaga o Ngati Waewae.  Council's role is to provide local leadership and facilitate the delivery of services and activities that promote community well-being throughout the Grey District.

Council provides leadership relating to issues that affect the community, through the management of the environment and promotion of the District's needs and aspirations. It ensures that the district’s infrastructural assets and associated resources are utilised and managed in a responsible way for the benefit of residents and ratepayers both today and in the future.

Council wants to make sure its region grows and develops in a way that keeps its values safe for future generations.
