Reference Number: 7673aa

Location: Palmerston North

Palmerston North is a vibrant, progressive and ambitious city. The city is currently experiencing growth in all sectors and competes with other regional centres amidst technological and demographic change for capital, talent and visitors. In this context Palmerston North City Council provides services to more than 90,000 residents, employing 600 staff across a broad range of functions. PNCC is delivering its vision for Palmerston North: small city benefits, big city ambition that will help the city achieve its potential, capitalise on its strengths, and thrive in the future.

Reporting to PNCC’s Assistant Chief Executive, the Head of Marketing and Communications will manage and deliver all marketing, communications, and print requirements across Council. A big part of the role will be developing the brand equity of Palmerston North City, its assets and programmes, using all marketing channels available to reinforce the key messaging around Council’s vision – Small City Benefits, Big City Ambition. Critical to this work is delivering outstanding marketing and brand campaigns end to end from research to delivery, implementing new brand standards across Council and the way the city and Council manages its city identity and campaigns.

Preferred candidates will have substantial experience in leading a strategic communications or brand and marketing function in a complex organisation (though not necessarily within the local government sector). A proven ability to think strategically and deliver in line with wider strategic plans will be important for success in the role. As a subject matter expert in brand and campaign marketing and being able to express complex issues so they can be easily understood by the public, stakeholders and staff will ensure success in this function, as will a high level of political acuity and an open, collaborative style.

For those seeking a compelling professional challenge in a vibrant local government setting, this role represents an exciting next career step.
