The New Zealand Law Society (NZLS) is the professional body for barristers and solicitors in New Zealand. Established in 1869, NZLS regulates all lawyers practising in New Zealand. With branch offices throughout the country, NZLS is the Kaitiaki (guardian) of the public, the profession and the law of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Leading a team of 4 and reporting to the General Manager Finance and Administration (who is based in Wellington), this role is responsible for the provision of all management and professional functions of both the Canterbury and Otago Libraries. Specifically, this will include providing legal research and training for lawyers and collection management, as well as Library budget preparation and administration. You will also work collaboratively with the Auckland and Wellington NZLS Librarians in the shared operational management of the Library nationally, including the production of the Library’s LINX database.

This role requires a passionate and experienced librarian with a solid working knowledge of a law library, well-established skills in legal research, experience providing research training to lawyers and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. This role has a strong focus on the development of the Library to meet New Zealand Law Society’s strategic objectives of sustainability, equity, wellbeing and responsiveness.
