Sheffield South Island were delighted to partner with Southern Waters in their recent Search for two key leadership positions as they begin their establishment of the new water services entity.
Christchurch based, Bruce Gemmell has been appointed to the role of Establishment Chair and Fiona Smith, is relocating from Australia for the position of Programme Director.
Bruce is well known for his extensive governance experience around the South Island. Currently he is an Independent Director and Chair of the Audit and Risk committee at Central Plains Water Limited as well as a Director of Buller Electricity, Chair of Lincoln Agritech Ltd, Chair of Nitrolands Ltd, and Director Orion NZ. He recently stood down as Chancellor of Lincoln University at the end of 2025.
Fiona Smith was an executive at WaterNSW and has extensive experience in water, land and environmental management. Fiona has a strong understanding of operating in highly regulated, complex environments and can bring a unique blend of strategic foresight, systems thinking, operational acumen and developing high performing teams.
Previously acting as Chief Executive for the Sydney Catchment Authority, she lead the organisation through a merger with WaterNSW.
