About The Role

Are you a senior finance leader who wants their work to mean something?

Nurse Maude is seeking an exceptional Chief Financial Officer to join its Executive Management Team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Board, this is a role where financial leadership has genuine purpose.

The CFO provides strategic financial leadership across the Association (operational activities) and the Foundation (philanthropy) at meaningful scale: operating cashflow of approximately $110 million, a balance sheet of approximately $70 million, and a Finance & Assurance team of around 20 staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Financial strategy leadership, planning, forecasting, and performance management to enable long-term sustainability, resilience and planned growth and to drive accountability and value creation.
  • Funding strategy and commercial discipline across government contracts, philanthropy, partnerships, and consumer-pay services.
  • Capital allocation, investment, and asset management aligned to organisational priorities.
  • Robust financial governance, internal controls, audit coordination, and enterprise risk management.
  • Board and executive advisory support, including partnering with the Finance & Audit Sub-Committee and Foundation Chairs.
  • Giving practical effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity outcomes within funding models, investment decisions, pricing frameworks, and reporting.

About the Organisation

Nā te manaaki kairangi ki ngā tāngata Māori o Aotearoa, me te whakaute hoki, ka whakatū mātou i te mauri me te mana o Nurse Maude. By providing the best care for all the people of Aotearoa today, and treating every person with respect, we honour the spirit and mana of Sibylla Maude.

Founded in Christchurch in 1896 by district nurse Sibylla Maude, Nurse Maude is New Zealand's oldest community care and nursing organisation. The founding conviction that high-quality care belongs in people's homes and communities remains its purpose today.

Nurse Maude delivers services across Te Waipounamu (Canterbury, Nelson Marlborough, with Dunedin planned) and Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Capital Coast and Hutt Valley), including district nursing, home care, palliative and hospice care, specialty clinics and a care home.  With 1,250 staff and 260 volunteers delivering over 1,000,000 visits each year, Nurse Maude supports some of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

Skills & Experience

You will bring:

  • At least 10 years' senior financial leadership experience, including a minimum of five years as a CFO.
  • Relevant degree and CA membership; FCA preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and best practice financial management.
  • Experience in the health sector or a predominantly government-funded environment, and familiarity with the requirements of charitable organisations is desirable.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement financial and enterprise risk management strategies.
  • Strategic thinking with strong commercial acumen and the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an improvement mindset.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, coaching and empowering the team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong affinity with Nurse Maude's charitable mission and values, a genuine commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to ethical, high-integrity practice.
