The Lines Company (TLC) is proud to keep over 18,000 customers connected to electricity throughout the King Country, Ruapehu and Central Plateau. The company is owned by the Waitomo Energy Services Customer Trust (WESCT) on behalf of its Beneficiaries, who receive TLC discounts through twice-yearly discount credits to their account from the company.

The Shareholder, WESCT, seeks to appoint a Director to TLC’s board due to the retirement of an incumbent director. The appointee must have strong audit and risk capabilities and will demonstrate a strategic and commercially focused mindset, working collaboratively to ensure successful long-term business performance. WESCT is seeking an individual who possesses a genuine passion for rural communities, understands their unique challenges, and is dedicated to ensuring that their well-being remains at the forefront of decision-making.

Applicants will ideally be qualified Chartered Accountants with strong treasury, risk and financial expertise. They should bring a proven track record of contributing to the financial success and long-term strategic planning of a substantial organisation, ideally with experience at the governance level. Familiarity with technology, including ERP systems, at a governance level would be advantageous. Good emotional intelligence, strategic thinking capability, commercial acumen, and a high level of intellect are all attributes for success in this role. Experience in the energy/electricity sector is not essential.

TLC’s board meets ten times per year, predominantly in Te Kūiti, and WESCT is seeking to make an appointment in July, with a view to commencing on 1 October.
