Ko tōu ake mahi – What you'll do

This is a rare opportunity to serve at the intersection of clinical excellence, regulatory oversight, and public trust. As Deputy Registrar (assisted dying), you will perform statutory functions under the End of Life Choice Act 2019, ensuring that assisted dying in Aotearoa New Zealand is delivered safely, compassionately, and in full accordance with the law.

  • Provide senior technical expertise and advice to inform decision-making and work programmes supporting the administration of the Act.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including statutory committees, Health NZ, Whaikaha, PHOs and regulatory authorities — nationally and internationally.

  • Mentor team members and identify opportunities for quality improvement, ensuring all work reflects our responsibilities to equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • The ability to think critically, make well-reasoned decisions under pressure, and communicate complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated resilience in the face of diverse views, and the interpersonal capability to maintain positive relationships across the Ministry, government agencies and the wider sector.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working in genuine partnership with Māori.
