The Heartland Otago Southland branch of Life Education Trust are seeking new Trustees.

The collective role of Trustees is to ensure the Life Education programme is delivered to our communities.  This involves key responsibilities such as:

  • representing and promoting Life Education
  • operational planning (i.e. annual planning) that links to our organisation's vision and objectives
  • fundraising to cover the costs of delivering the Life Education programme
  • managing employees, namely educator(s) who deliver the Life Education programme
  • managing assets, especially meeting the requirements and maintenance of the mobile classroom
  • ensuring the effective financial management of the community trust


Time commitment

We meet once per month for approximately 2 hours, generally in the Roxburgh area, and every 2nd meeting is via Zoom.  Due to the mix of governance and management activities required, a time commitment of 4-6 hours per month outside of these meetings is likely.


Ideal applicant

Specifically, we are now seeking a Trust Treasurer to ensure ongoing effective financial management of the Trust.  The successful candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Financial management experience, preferably a practicing accountant
  • An alignment with the Life Education vision, values, purpose and philosophy
  • A commitment to enhancing the lives of our community through the education
  • Some governance experience, including in a community trust setting, desirable but not essential
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • The role is voluntary (unpaid) and requires Trustees to reside within the Heartland Otago Southland catchment area.

Please note that Trustees need to certify to the Charities Services that they fit the criteria to be an officer of a charitable entity. Background checks relating to criminal and financial history may also apply.
