As a wholly owned subsidiary of Orion NZ Ltd, and part of the wider Christchurch City Holdings group, Connetics plays a key role in a broader ecosystem committed to a cleaner, brighter energy future.
What sets Connetics apart is its people. Inclusive and forward‑focused, the team of 420 are actively appreciated, their ideas heard, and aspirational goals supported.
About the Role:
Connetics is looking for a Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager who brings curiosity, connection and strategic clarity and who will continue to strengthen Connetics safety culture, ensuring work is safe, smart and committed to achieving failsafe outcomes.
Reporting to the Head of Risk, HSE & Assurance, and with a team of five, the role sets the roadmap for HSE contributing to the wider risk, HSE and assurance strategy. The team is forward looking, taking a modern approach to Health and Safety leadership. Using effective controls to achieve fail safe outcomes and with operational excellence at its heart the team designs systems, processes, and behaviours that anticipate risk and reduce harm.
At its core, the role guides leaders in understanding what good practice looks like, strengthening the effectiveness of critical controls, and building on the strong cultural foundations already in place.
Key areas of focus include:
- Promoting a safety culture that moves from proactive to generative in the way Connetics thinks about and delivers safe work.
- Embedding fail-safe systems that are good practice and fit for Connetics operations.
- Overseeing science-based assessment and root cause analysis that strengthen critical controls and lift organisation‑wide understanding of risk.
- Ensuring reporting is meaningful and focused on what’s important – keeping people engaged.
- Coaching and developing the HSE team.
Skills & Experience:
You’ll bring a strong mix of technical grounding and operational insight, ideally from the electricity sector or a similar multi‑site, high‑risk environment.
Highly relational, you will actively build trust and engagement across Connetics. An effective leader, you will understand how best to maintain the balance between supporting Business Partners to deliver while maintaining organisation wide oversight.
Your relevant experience and qualifications mean you are driven by science-based analysis and qualitative insight. You also accept that resistance is a constant and instead focus on the ‘big stuff’ that will have real impact.
Calm under pressure, and an effective, authentic communicator you will actively live the values: ‘We care, we listen, we act’.
In addition you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related fields are essential, and professional accreditation is a bonus.
- Proven experience setting and embedding a Health & Safety strategy in a high risk environment.
Culture and Benefits:
Join a values‑driven, people‑centred organisation with exceptional culture and career pathways across the wider Christchurch City Holdings group, and a competitive remuneration and benefits package.
- Comprehensive wellbeing support including mini‑medicals, flu vaccines, mole checks, ergonomic assessments, and confidential counselling.
- Financial and lifestyle benefits such as discounted medical insurance, rental car discounts, employee banking perks, flexible working and long‑service leave.
- Strong development focus with leadership programmes, mentoring through Te Whāriki, tailored inductions, seminars, training and apprenticeship opportunities.
