BrainTree is NZ's first wellness centre for brain health that supports people living with neurological conditions to live well in the community. Together with partners, Multiple Sclerosis & Parkinson's Canterbury Charitable Trust, Dementia Canterbury Charitable Trust and others, BrainTree provides a space for people and their whānau to connect with others who understand the condition as well as encourage engagement with the support services, information and activities available in our community
The Board is made up of four Independent Directors and two Directors representing the shareholders (CBC is a 50/50 joint venture between Dementia Canterbury and Multiple Sclerosis & Parkinson’s Canterbury). Simon Challies is well known as the driving force behind Braintree over the last five years, and has recently retired as an Independent Director. With Simon leaving, we are looking to fill the vacancy of the fourth Independent Director.
The board are developing their strategic plan, with a future focus on:
- Continuing to support those who come through the doors, with a social and wellbeing-centred environment
- Building a positive and collaborative team culture for BrainTree and the collective members (the neurological organisations that are tenants and shareholders)
- Engaging with anchor donors and key supporters
- Investigating and securing new funding/fundraising streams.
Candidates of interest ideally will:
- Live in Canterbury, be well connected and networked into the Canterbury business community
- Have some NFP governance experience, maybe a track record with supporting a charity
- Have good commercial acumen and strategic thinking ability
- Be known for their collaborative, down to earth and pragmatic style
- Have the ability to proactively network for fundraising efforts supporting the BrainTree brand as the opportunity arises
This role is voluntary but offers an exciting opportunity to work with a great team for a worthy cause, particularly if you have a personal connection to Dementia, MS, Parkinson’s or associated conditions.
