About The Organisations

Salt Pathfinder and Helm Wealth Holdings Limited (SPH Wealth) is a group of specialist wealth management businesses, comprising PathfinderSalt Funds Management, Helm Wealth Advisory, Octagon and the Summer KiwiSaver Scheme, with combined funds under management of $6.5 billion. Rātā Foundation (Rātā) holds over 31% of the company.

SPH Wealth has been built incrementally through acquisition, with each business retaining its own management team and, in most cases, its own board.

Rātā is the South Island's most significant community investment fund, managing a $730 million pūtea that generates around $26 million per annum to invest in its funding regions of Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and the Chatham Islands.

The strategic priority for the Board and management team is to now integrate these five specialist businesses into a single, coherent group, realising the benefits of scale and a unified culture, while protecting the client proposition that makes each business successful.

The Board

The SPH Wealth Board is relatively new and is in an aspirational growth phase. The Board is undertaking a refresh with a plan to have the executive members remain until new members are appointed.

As a shareholder, Rātā can appoint two directors (including this vacancy). The Board will meet formally six times a year in person in Auckland and online. (There are also sub committees.)

Directors receive an annual fee of $60,000. The term is for three years.

The Director

As the ideal candidate, you will bring strong governance experience - this is not a first time directorship, and you'll be comfortable operating at board level with the judgement that comes from having served on other boards.

You will have solid financial services sector knowledge, including a good understanding of compliance obligations under the FMA, and be confident engaging with regulatory and conduct matters at a governance level.

You will bring experience guiding organisations through post-acquisition integration and the complexity this brings, including looking after shareholder interests. Marketing and customer journey experience will also be highly valued, helping the board consider strategy through the lens of the member or customer experience.

A confident, independent thinker, you will be comfortable constructively challenging the status quo and existing ways of doing things, while working collaboratively with fellow directors and management.

Above all, you will share Rātā's values and demonstrate a genuine alignment with its purpose and culture.
