Catholic Diocese of Auckland  |  Te Taumata o te Hāhi Katorika

The Organisation

The Catholic Diocese of Auckland is New Zealand's oldest and largest Catholic diocese, established in 1848 and serving close to 183,000 Catholics from the Far North to the Coromandel. Led by Bishop Stephen Lowe, the Diocese encompasses 68 parishes and 57 Catholic schools, together with a range of social service, housing and community agencies, and has recently launched Reshaping, a diocese-wide programme of renewal for the decades ahead.

The Role

The General Manager reports to the Bishop and the Diocesan Administration Council and is responsible for strategic leadership, operational performance, governance support, finance, property, IT and people functions.

The General Manager works in close partnership with peer leaders across education, pastoral care, social services and Māori ministry to align resources and delivery with the Bishop's priorities. It is a role of real breadth, blending commercial discipline with pastoral sensitivity, at a formative time for the Diocese.

About You

You will bring a proven track record of success in a broadly based senior general management role.

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, with sound governance judgement
  • A strong ability to lead through influence across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Genuine empathy for the Catholic faith, ethos and mission
  • The highest standards of personal integrity and business ethics
  • Experience in property and asset management would be advantageous, given the Diocese's substantial property portfolio and capital works programme

This is a rare opportunity to lead the operations of a values-driven, community-facing organisation of real scale and impact, and to play a defining role in shaping the future of the Catholic Diocese of Auckland.
